Maritime magazine Lloyd’s List (UK) has released a ranking of 100 container ports in 2022 with the largest cargo throughput in the world. Vietnam takes over three spots in this list, which are Hai Phong port, Saigon port (Ho Chi Minh City) and Cai Mep port. These are all seaports that are also assessed by Lloyd’s List with good growth rates.

According to Lloyd’s List, Saigon port ranks 22nd with a throughput of 7.9 million Teus in 2021 and a growth rate of about 1.3% compared to 2020. According to Lloyd’s List, Vietnam can develop to be in a strategic supply chain with Saigon seaport. Along with that, the future of Saigon port can expand further and this area is also undergoing important changes.

Hai Phong seaport holds the 28th position, with an annual output of 5.69 million Teus in 2021, an increase of about 10.8% compared to the 2020 pandemic. The cargo volume of Hai Phong seaport in 2021 has doubled compared to 2012.

Currently, several container ship routes connecting directly from Hai Phong to Asian countries and the US have been established. According to Lloyd’s List, Cai Mep seaport is in 32nd position, with a throughput of 5.38 million Teus by 2021. Cai Mep port is considered a bright spot in Southeast Asia with the following growth rate. pandemic about 22%.

In Cai Mep, Tan Cang-Cai Mep International Port (TCIT) handled more than 2 million Teus for 2 consecutive years and welcomed large ships. Meanwhile, Cai Mep International Port CMIT welcomes ships from major shipping lines in the world such as Maersk Lines, Cosco, OOCL… with a tonnage that can receive up to more than 200,000 DWT.

Cai Mep International Port (CMIT) has an area of 48 hectares. The port has a wharf of 600m long, capable of receiving large container ships of 160,000 DWT.

According to Vung Tau Port Authority, CMIT can provide high-quality services to shipping lines and customers in the fastest time, through direct international shipping routes from Vietnam to major markets, such as Asia, Europe and America.

Currently, in Ba Ria – Vung Tau province, there are 48/69 ports in operation, with a total designed capacity of 155.7 million tons/year. The province has 7 large container port projects with a capacity of 6.8 million TEUs/year.

In order to promote the advantages of seaports, Ba Ria – Vung Tau province has mobilized investment capital to develop transport infrastructure to connect deep-water ports, land and sea transport with provinces in key regions. southern point.

Along with that, the province implements planning and builds a system of industrial parks associated with seaports. Up to now, Ba Ria – Vung Tau has 15 industrial parks, with a total area of about 8,510 ha.

Ba Ria – Vung Tau is a province with advantages in marine resources. According to the People’s Committee of Ba Ria – Vung Tau province, the marine resources of Ba Ria – Vung Tau are very convenient for the development of shipping, port system, tourism and the seafood mining and processing industry.
