Upgrading Vietnam’s largest maritime route in Ba Ria – Vung Tau

The Ministry of Transport coordinated with the People’s Committee of Ba Ria – Vung Tau province to organize the Construction Implementation Ceremony of the Cai Mep – Thi Vai channel upgrade project, the section from buoy number 0 to the container port in Cai Mep. This is the country’s largest navigational channel project to be built in 2023.

The investment project to build a project to upgrade the Cai Mep – Thi Vai fairway from buoy 0 to Cai Mep container port is one of the important projects with a total investment of 1,414 billion VND, from the state budget.

The project will renovate and expand the channel from buoy number 0 to Cai Mep international port with an upgraded length of 30.5 km and; a channel bottom width of 350m. Once completed, the channel can receive ships from 160,000 to 200,000 tons in and out, operate safely, meet the needs of goods circulation in the region and create a driving force to promote investment projects in the region.

According to Deputy Minister of Transport Nguyen Xuan Sang, the upgrading of the Cai Mep – Thi Vai fairway route from buoy No.0 to the Cai Mep container terminal is to improve exploitation efficiency, and form and develop a focal port cluster. international gateway, meeting the needs of goods circulation in the region and the country, and ensuring the safety of ships.

With that importance, Deputy Minister Nguyen Xuan Sang suggested that the construction units and contractors soon study the plan to speed up the construction progress, ensuring technical and traffic safety.

“The project of upgrading and renovating the Cai Mep – Thi Vai channel is the biggest project of the maritime industry this year, also the seaport area, the largest channel in the country, aims to receive the largest ships around the world. Request the Maritime Project Management Board to well implement the work of warning and regulating traffic to ensure both efficient exploitation of the channel, and absolute safety for ships entering and leaving vehicles participating in the construction,” Deputy Minister Nguyen Xuan Sang emphasized.
