By 2030, more than 312 trillion VND is needed to invest in maritime infrastructure
19/04/2023By 2030, the need for investment capital for public maritime infrastructure is more than 70,000 billion VND, and for the port about 242,000 billion VND.
According to the report of the Ministry of Transport on the completion of the “Detailed planning for groups of seaports, ports, wharves, floating terminals, water areas, and water areas in the period of 2021 – 2030, with a vision to 2050” sent to the Prime Minister By 2030, the total investment demand for the seaport system is about 312,625 billion VND.
The investment capital demand for public maritime infrastructure is about more than 70,000 billion VND and the need for investment capital for the port is more than 242,000 billion VND.

Accordingly, by 2025, focus on investing in upgrading the Cai Mep – Thi Vai channel to serve ships up to 200,000 tons to reduce the load (18,000 Teu); Project of channel for large tonnage ships entering Hau River – phase 2 for ships up to 20,000 tons to reduce load; Van Uc river channel for ships of 10,000 tons, Chanh river channel for ships up to 50,000 tons.
Many channels in the Central region are prioritized for upgrading such as the entrance to Nghi Son port for ships up to 50,000 tons, Tho Quang channel for ships up to 10,000 tons, Quy Nhon channel for ships up to 50,000 tons…
At the same time, prioritizing investment in sea lights in islands and archipelagos under Vietnam’s sovereignty, infrastructure in service of maritime safety; Building the Coastal Information Station, the Center for Engineering and Technology, the representative of Nha Trang Maritime Administration in Truong Sa.
By 2030, invest in the construction of breakwaters at Vung Ang port (Ha Tinh province), and at the same time renovate and upgrade the sand barrier system of Cua Viet and Cua Gianh channels as well as renovate and upgrade the Cam Pha channel, Ba Ngoi channel, Hon La channel, navigation channel through Tran De estuary, and correction of Diem Dien and Van Uc navigational channels.
The ship navigation system (VTS) will also be prioritized for investment in the Hon Gai – Cai Lan channel and the channel for large vessels entering the Hau River.
As for seaports, by 2025, priority will be given to putting berths 3, 4, 5, and 6 in the Lach Huyen Wharf area, starting wharf at Lien Chieu Wharf area and main ports of class I seaports.
In addition, to develop international passenger terminals associated with key tourism development zones, as well as large-scale ports near coal, gas, petroleum, metallurgical power centers, and wharves serving the coastal economic zone.
This period also calls for investment in harbors at potential seaports such as Van Phong and Tran De. In 2030, the investment will be made to start up the Nam Do Son Wharf area (Hai Phong), the ports in the lower Cai Mep area and the lower Cai Mep area, and the Tran De Wharf area (Soc Trang).
