Proposing to invest more than VND 150 billion to build marine fairway into Tho Quang terminal
01/04/2022The investment project to build a flow route into Tho Quang wharf will meet the needs of ships with a tonnage of up to 10,000 tons.
The Maritime Project Management Unit has just submitted to the Ministry of Transport for approval the investment project on the construction of the flow route into Tho Quang terminal, Da Nang.

The scope of the project has a total length of more than 2.9 km, including two sections of the mainstream to be renovated and upgraded.
In particular, the section from buoy No. 1 to the end of Son Tra port is 1,576 m long, the stream width is 85m; the stream bottom level is -8.1 m (sea chart) to meet the tonnage of 7,000 – 10,000 dwt or more (meeting the conditions of maritime safety).
The second section from Son Tra port to Thu river shipyard is 1,350m long with a stream width of 65 m; the stream bottom level is -5.6m (sea map), meeting 3,000 dwt full load, military ships newly built 4,100 dwt or more (meeting maritime safety conditions), ships 8,000 dwt unloaded.
The project has a total investment of more than 151 billion VND, which is proposed to be used by the State budget in the medium-term public investment plan for the period 2021 – 2025 9. Implementation period from 2022 to the end of 2023.
Previously, reporting to the Ministry of Transport on the need to invest in the flow route into Tho Quang port, the Maritime PMU said that according to the maritime announcement, the flow route leading to Tho Quang wharf is currently mainly using natural elevation with depths ranging from -2.7m to -4.5m (depending on each section).
Some points at the border of the stream close to the water area of Son Tra general port only reach a depth of -2.7m in combination with the tide, there is not much difference in Da Nang area, only meet the ship to 1,000 dwt out and in the port.
Meanwhile, Son Tra port was designed with the capacity to pick up 10,000 dwt full load, 20,000 tons reduced load. When ports go into operation with common vessel sizes of 5,000 – 10,000 dwt despite taking advantage of the tides, the flow route still cannot guarantee the depth.
Therefore, it is essential to dredge the stream into Tho Quang wharf in order to build the stream infrastructure to meet the needs and efficiency of the ports that have been invested in the area.
